Class: Fundamentals of Animation for Young Artists
Overview:
This class introduces students in Grade 4 and above to the basics of animation, using drawing software to bring creative ideas to life. With guided, step-by-step instruction, students will learn the essential principles of animation, use Procreate for drawing and animating, and explore fun themes like nature, animals, plants, and food. Socialization time is included, giving young artists a chance to connect with their peers.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand basic animation principles.
- Set up a workspace in Procreate for animation.
- Learn to use Procreate’s various tools.
- Follow step-by-step instructions.
- Develop creative thinking skills.
Materials Needed:
- iPad
- Procreate App (USD 9.99, iPad-only).
- For Android users: Flipaclip (free version available, full version $4.99 to avoid ads).
- Stylus with a pointed tip.
Class Structure:
- Check-In: Welcome and class starts.
- Introduction: Learn one animation principle.
- Guided Practice: Follow a step-by-step demonstration to create along with the instructor.
- Independent Work: Students create their animations, ask questions, and interact with others.
- Art Sharing: Students showcase their work and receive gentle feedback.
Participation Tips:
During guided practice, students can show their animations for feedback and are encouraged to ask questions. Microphones will be muted during instruction for larger classes, and students can raise their hands to speak.
